Finally, at bavka, we have created a practice board to prepare the hand for writing. Learning to write and read will become an engaging process with this carefully designed and lovingly crafted educational material. It is perfect for Montessori-friendly homeschooling.
This board is unique in its font, which we have drawn in proper cursive representation. Such fonts can be considered the closest to the teaching system used in Montessori schools.
The Montessori program teaches cursive letter recognition and writing before teaching print (manuscript) because the fluid movements required for cursive writing are easier for children to master. It is also easier for children to transition from cursive to print writing than from print to cursive.
Begin by tracing the outline of the letter with a pointing finger. We learn the smooth lines and sensory shape of the symbol.
The next step is to use the included wooden pen to enhance fine motor skills and finger and hand strength for writing preparation.
Through physical repetition of the symbol, children develop muscle memory, and over time, it becomes an automatic process, and writing becomes a habit when a child picks up a pen and paper.
After mastering the primary function of the board, you can diversify your activities by placing seeds, pom-poms, or grains inside the numbers.
Cover the board with a tight transparent film or wrap it with cling wrap and playdough, kinetic sand, slime, or other sensory materials to replicate the numbers.
By placing a paper on top, you can trace the outline of the number.
Next, you can move on to reproducing the number on paper, trying to copy it from the board as a model.
