The flip-lid sorter demonstrates one of the most important laws of physics to children - figures don't disappear, they just move. This simple but captivating mechanism holds baby's attention for long periods and develops key thinking skills.
Child drops shapes into corresponding holes, then flips the lid - and shapes "disappear". To find them, need to flip the lid back. This cycle can be repeated endlessly, each time getting satisfaction from predictable results.
Sorter combines several important learning tasks in one material. First child learns to recognize shapes and find corresponding holes, then masters lid movement mechanics.
What develops:
- Cause-effect relationships - understanding that actions have predictable results
- Action sequences - algorithm "sort → press → open"
- Geometric thinking - recognition of basic shapes and their properties
- Hand-eye coordination - accurate placement of shapes in holes
- Fine motor skills - finger and wrist movements during manipulations
- Logical thinking - analysis and action planning
- Concentration - sustained focus on task
From 9 months babies begin actively exploring objects and their properties. Sorter is perfect for this period when child is ready for more complex toy manipulations.
Simple mechanics allows child to play independently, without constant adult intervention. This develops self-confidence and independent exploration skills.
Sorter remains interesting over extended period. Initially child just drops shapes, later learns to sort them correctly, and eventually uses for role-playing games.
Made from natural ash and beech wood, finished with blend of oils and beeswax. All edges polished, shapes are safe size.
