First trainer for little hands
Montessori connected discs are perfectly designed first sensory experience for babies who are just beginning to master grasping and object manipulation. Simple but ingenious construction maximally adapted to infant capabilities.
Two wooden discs 5 cm in diameter connected at 90° angle. Such size perfectly fits little palm, and connection angle creates natural grasping convenience even with uncertain movements.
Disc shape allows child to easily grasp toy with either hand. Even if grasping reflex still imperfect, discs don't slip from hands thanks to their form.
What develops:
- Grasping reflex - basic skill for all future manipulations
- Hand-eye coordination - visual targeting and precise grasping
- Bilateral coordination - transferring from hand to hand
- Wrist and fine motor skills - rotation during transfer
- Sensory perception - feeling weight, texture, wood temperature
- Spatial thinking - understanding shape and volume
Special value of discs in their movement. When dropped, they slowly roll short distance, creating ideal stimulus for child. Baby sees where toy rolled and tries to reach it, developing gross motor skills.
Natural development progression:
- First weeks: child simply holds discs, feeling their weight and texture
- 2-3 months: learns to transfer from hand to hand
- 4-6 months: observes movement when dropped
- 6+ months: actively rolls and crawls toward discs
Natural wood has its own temperature, smell and unique texture. This enriches child's tactile experience much more than smooth plastic.
Disc size specially calculated to not create swallowing risk but be sufficiently interesting for exploration. All edges carefully polished.
Toy embodies main methodology principles - simplicity, functionality, age-appropriate needs. It doesn't overload child with excessive stimuli but provides exactly what's needed for development.
